THE VALUE CHAIN
CHAMPION OF THE CIRCULAR LITHIUM-ION BATTERY
VALUE CHAIN

Megamillion is championing the entire Lithium-ion battery value-chain in Africa, from mineral extraction to recycling and everything in-between.
Localizing the entire Lithium-ion battery value-chain offers an unprecedented opportunity for Africa to establish itself as the global powerhouse in Lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle manufacturing.

LOCAL BENEFICIATION OF CRITICAL BATTERY MINERALS
Historically, Africa's minerals have been extracted and then exported with very little localization and value add. Some call this exploitation.
This approach has not led to any long-term benefits to any African country. In order to improve the major trade deficit, there has to be an insistence on meaningful value-added beneficiation on African soil.

This is not an option, it should be a pre-requisite.
LOCAL PRODUCTION OF
BATTERY-GRADE POWDERS
AND COMPONENTS
Currently, hardly any minerals processing is done on African soil. This has to change.

Converting rocks to battery-grade powders and components is not entirely rocket science. Through smart partnerships for shared prosperity, technology transfers and skills development in exchange for preferential access to critical minerals is a good trade-off for anyone desperate for Africa's minerals.

Africa's greatest potential to transition from an extractive to a manufacturing economy lies herein.

LOCAL CELL MANUFACTURING
IN GIGA-SCALE
As long as cells are imported, Africa will always be paying a surcharge for end-products that utilize its very own raw materials. Importing finished cells attracts additional costs such as transport and insurance, with the cost of finished goods over 20 times the cost of the input materials.
Besides this, Africa is often at a disadvantage due to a willing-buyer willing seller from more affluent countries.

To counter this severe disadvantage, cells must be produced locally, from Africa for Africa first.
LOCAL DESIGN & MANUFACTURING OF
ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are vital to deliver energy into use-cases that are applicable to Africa's needs, such as a micro-grids in rural and disadvantaged communities.

Africa has delivered many innovations that have shaped the world we live in. To list just a few: the CAT Scan; the world’s first successful human heart transplant; the modern bionic arm, the inkjet printer, and even Pratley putty that was used in the Apollo 11 moon landing mission.

We must design, engineer, and manufacture BESS systems locally to meet our growing and unique energy needs.

LOCAL ELECTRIC VEHICLE MANUFACTURING
By 2050, Africa's population is expected to reach approximately 2.5 billion people. Clean mobility is a must to facilitate the movement of people and goods without costing the earth.
Besides its own growing need for clean mobility, countries like South Africa must transition to EV manufacturing in order to satisfy their current export markets, as these markets aggressively transition to clean mobility. Failing this, automotive exports will dwindle and thousands of jobs will be lost forever.

In exchange for Africa's much-needed battery minerals, OEMs should be mandated to invest in local EV manufacturing. Makes sense?
SAVING THE EARTH
WITHOUT COSTING THE EARTH
Battery recycling and reuse are crucial for reducing environmental impact and conserving valuable resources.
Recycling batteries helps prevent harmful chemicals from leaching into the environment and reduces the demand for mining raw materials like lithium and cobalt, which can be environmentally damaging.
Additionally, reusing old batteries reduces waste and supports the circular economy.
Efficient recycling is a key step in ensuring a sustainable future as the world transitions to greener technologies.
